Teen's campaign subs for divas' 'Fur-Free and Fabulous' billboard.

Don't expect to see Lady Gaga, Pink and Mariah Carey gracing their anti-fur billboard for PETA anytime soon: The animal-rights organization has canceled the previously announced all-star advertisement.
As part of PETA's "Fur-Free and Fabulous" campaign, all three pop stars were set to gaze over the corner of Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. However, a rep for PETA told MTV News that because of time constraints with artwork, the ad has been nixed, and will be replaced with Justin Bieber's latest campaign.
"We were unable to finalize artwork for the 'Fur-Free & Fabulous' billboard for the short window of time that it would be available," Adrianne Burke said in an e-mail. "So we decided to put up our 'Animals can make you smile' billboard featuring Justin Bieber. This PSA encourages people to adopt dogs and cats from shelters instead of buying them from breeders or pet stores."
A few weeks ago, PETA unveiled their Bieber-assisted campaign, in which the 16-year-old teen sensation poses alongside a pup with tag lines that read, "My World Includes Passion for Animals, Yours Should Too" and "Animals Can Make U Smile, Adopt From Your Local Shelter."
The pop threesome was slated to join a long list of stars who have also teamed with the organization to declare their opposition against fur, including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of "A Star Is Born," to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.
The remake will be the fourth telling of the "A Star Is Born" tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.
Naturally, the plot details are under wraps, but the original story revolves around an aspiring singer who meets and falls in love with a troubled, failing former star who helps get the young ingénue her big break in the business.
No announcements have been made with regard to the male lead, but the report mentioned that major names like Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm have been floated around.
It's definitely an interesting step for Knowles but not necessarily a surprise, given the fact that the majority of her film roles have been as singers ("Cadillac Records," "Dreamgirls," "The Fighting Temptations"). While many thought "Dreamgirls" would bring awards recognition for Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson's supporting role ended up garnering the most attention. With Oscar fave Eastwood at the helm of this new project, Knowles could be in line for some hardware yet.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.
To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.
According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.
Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).
The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.
It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.
Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Lil Wayne was set to premiere the video for "6 Foot 7 Foot" on MTV this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET during the special presentation "MTV First: Lil Wayne," but the highly anticipated debut has been postponed as the finishing touches are being put on the video. To tide you over until the premiere, however, here's a little more from Wayne about how the track came together.
The song is the lead single from Weezy's forthcoming album, Tha Carter IV, the Cash Money Records superstar's first project since his release from prison in November. The rollicking track was produced by Bangladesh, who helmed Wayne's "A Milli" and features the newest Young Money addition Cory Gunz.
The upstart rapper is the progeny of veteran New York rapper Peter Gunz ("Deja Vu") and an alumnus of XXL's noted Freshmen 10 cover in 2009. According to Wayne, he placed Gunz on "6 Foot 7 Foot" to introduce his recent signee since he knew how much attention would be given to his first track. He characterized the strategy as a similar path he took with Drake and Nicki Minaj.
"You know, I put Nicki on the right songs, I put Drake on the right songs; I picked the right song," Wayne told MTV News. "It makes people pay attention ... because I know that people were waiting to see what I'll say on my first record, my first Lil Wayne record [since getting out of prison]. 'Cause, of course, I've done a bunch of features, and I'm quite sure whoever I did a feature for [before], as soon as I came home they put it out 'cause it got Wayne on here. 'He just came home, let's put it out.' So, I knew people were going to look at my first record like, 'I want to know what he's talking about on his first record.' And, I gave you the jewel at the end. It's like I'm forcing it on you, you got to hear this. It made everybody who didn't know Cory Gunz [say], 'Who is that?' "
Gunz, for his part, said when he got the call to join the track, Weezy gave him one simple edict: Attack.
"We went straight to the studio and Tunes [told me], 'I have something for you to hear,' and it went from there," Cory told MTV News in December. "[Wayne said], 'We gon' have to attack this.' As soon as I heard it, it was like instant. Some beats you hear [or] certain songs you hear in a party ... and they hit you in a certain kind of way, and that's kinda what the beat did. So we sat and the record is now getting an amazing response. People been messing with the record, so it's dope. I'm happy to be here."
No timetable has been set for the release of the "6 Foot 7 Foot" video, but we will bring you that info as soon as it is available.

Judge rules that camera will be allowed in the courtroom for manslaughter case.

For what promises to be one of the most bizarre and riveting legal proceedings in years, a Los Angeles judge ruled on Monday that a television camera will be allowed in the courtroom when Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial for involuntary manslaughter.
Reuters reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, approved the presence of a camera in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray as long as it does not interfere with the proceedings in the closely watched case.
The judge asked for the "absolute least-intrusive placement" of a TV camera in the courtroom, but blocked cameras from documenting jury selection.
Pastor also announced that he would bump up the opening date of the trail by four days to March 24, at which point jury selection will begin. Murray, who faces up to four years in prison if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the trial is expected to last around six weeks.
Cardiologist Murray was hired to be Jackson's personal physician in the run-up to the King of Pop's planned 50-date comeback series of shows at London's O2 arena in the summer of 2009. The doctor told police that he provided Jackson, 50, with sedatives and the surgical anesthetic propofol in order to combat the singer's chronic insomnia. He said he did so on the morning of June 25, 2009, when Jackson died of what a coroner deemed acute propofol poisoning.
TMZ reported on Tuesday (February 8) that Murray's lawyers plan to argue that Jackson was already in weak health before he died and that it's unfair to blame propofol for his passing. Unnamed sources close to the case told the gossip site that at the time of his death, Jackson's body was already failing him in part because concert promoter AEG Live had "driven [him] over the edge" with a rigorous rehearsal schedule for the shows.
Murray's lawyers reportedly plan to call witnesses to say that Jackson was not showing up for rehearsals and when he did he showed "clear signs" of frail health. They also reportedly plan to argue that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of propofol to himself while Murray was out of the room.

James Cameron-produced 'Sanctum' came in a distant second place.

Minka Kelly in "The Roommate"
Photo: Sony
Super Bowl weekend tends to leave an entire demographic on the sidelines: young women. But it seems women found a way to pass the time amidst the gridiron hoopla. They went to the movies. The trend isn't anything new, as last year, women helped make the weepy "Dear John" the #1 movie at the box office over Super Bowl weekend.
Women under the age of 21 had a big part in making the Leighton Meester/ Minka Kelly college chiller "The Roommate" #1 at a quiet weekend box office with $15.6 million. Sony's stalker thriller (60 percent of whose ticket buyers were female) jumped to an early lead when it brought in $6.4 million on Friday alone.
While Kelly and Meester made for a killer combo, it looks like the seemingly unstoppable pairing of James Cameron and dazzling special effects has started to flounder. Universal's Cameron-produced "Sanctum" found itself in second place with $9.2 million, even with 3-D ticket prices. The trapped-in-a-cave action vehicle received a paltry C+ from CinemaScore.
"The Roommate" likely snagged a good portion of the "No Strings Attached" audience, but the Natalie Portman/ Ashton Kutcher rom-com still passed the $50 million mark during its third week in theaters. Coming in at third place, the R-rated feature made $8.4 million, bringing its cumulative total to $51.8 million.
With just three weeks until the Oscars, audiences are making sure to see Best Picture front-runner "The King's Speech" before the big night. "Speech," which only fell 25 percent from last weekend's box-office figures, narrowly missed third place as it grossed $8.3 million. The film should pass the $100 million mark by the Academy Awards as it continues to expand in theaters. "The King's Speech" has made $84.1 million thus far in its theatrical run.
Rounding out the top five is Seth Rogen's comic book caper "The Green Hornet," which earned $6.1 million in its fourth week, bringing its overall total to $87.2 million.

#3 "No Strings Attached" ($8.4 million)

Usher's club-rattling jam "OMG" may "kill it every night" according to tourmate Miguel, but when the Atlanta crooner hit Madison Square Garden earlier this week, he was almost taken out by a clumsy fan.
When the singer touched down in New York on Monday, he indulged a super amped fan's fantasy by pulling her onstage for an intimate flirty serenade of "Trading Places." As Usher and the concertgoer got cozy on a recliner, she swiveled around to face the crooner — knocking him squarely in his mug with her foot. She began apologizing profusely as Usher briefly paused to collect himself. But the superstar took the strike in stride, quipping, "We play rough in the bed. We kick each other in the face and all type of good stuff."
Although Usher brushed off the blow, the moment did make an impression on him.
"In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it!" he told Us Weekly. The singer assured fans that the knock wasn't that bad. "It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh."
As for the fan, the "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love" star maintained everything is all good on that front too. "Wherever you are baby, don't feel bad," Usher said. "No hard feelings."
As Miguel has noted, Usher isn't one dwell on drama, whether it's cranking out another hit album or weathering an unexpected hit from a fan.
"He's such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination," Miguel recently told MTV News. "I was there throughout this album, so I've seen the adversity that he's had to overcome perception-wise."
What do you think of Usher's response to getting knocked in the head by a fan? Tell us in the comments!

Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, 'Never Say Never' star said in 2009.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.
In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.
"My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I'd never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people," he recalled.
"And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, 'Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?' The politest possible way he could say no, he did. ... I took the hint. I didn't get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session."
But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. "He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, 'I should have let this kid sing,' and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me."
As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.
"As far as Usher being my mentor, he's definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important," he explained.
"There's a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life."
On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

J.J. Abrams/Spielberg collabo teaser depicts train wreck, a Super 8 camera and a foreboding voice-over.

A scene from "Super 8"

Super Bowl XLV ushered a double dose of "super" — namely, the premiere of the 30-second trailer for the highly-anticipated J.J. Abrams-directed, Stephen Spielberg-produced vehicle "Super 8."
The creative force behind "Lost," "Star Trek" and "Cloverfield" has kept his upcoming project ensconced in secrecy, refusing to divulge details about the science-fiction blockbuster — letting slip only that it'll be set in 1979 as something of a throwback to Spielberg's most beloved tales. What we had to sate our curiosity until tonight was the film's release date, cast list and a painfully cryptic teaser screened before "Iron Man 2."
The "Super 8" Super Bowl XLV spot aired toward the last portion of the second quarter, and features a more elaborate view of the teaser's train wreck, soundtracked to whimsical, John Williams-esque music. The only dialogue comes in the form of a foreboding voice-over: "Do not speak of this. If you do, they will find you."
It opens on a view of what could be any Main Street in small-town America, as our young protagonist rides his bike into what turns out to be an epic train wreck. A quick shot shows him dropping a Super 8 camera. Presumably, he's captured footage of something that's meant to be kept under wraps (our money's on whatever's attempting to forcibly pound its way out of the train car in the next shot).
We're given quick glimpses of Kyle Chandler (playing, perhaps, a concerned parent?) and Elle Fanning (standing with a group of kids, the Super 8 camera propped between them), masses of people being herded off army trucks and into shelters, perplexed-looking government officials and explosions — all with a somewhat otherworldly bent to it (think: "E.T." meets "War of the Worlds" meets "The Goonies" meets "Cloverfield").
It appears that the film will largely be seen through the perspective of the young boy, and it certainly looks like an homage to Spielbergian style, with some J.J. Abrams action and mystery thrown in for good measure.
Can we perhaps get 30 more seconds, J.J.?

Lady Gaga's Born This Way has been dubbed many things: Gaga's "freedom" album and even "the greatest album of this decade." When Gaga's pal Perez Hilton spoke to MTV News, he had this to say: "This album is Gaga's Like a Prayer, and that is huge praise coming from me, who is, like, the biggest Madonna fan ever," he gushed to MTV News. "And I told Gaga that I think this album is her Like a Prayer, and she took that as a big compliment, and I'm so tempted to say more."
For those in need of a history lesson, Madonna released Like a Prayer in 1989, spawning singles like "Cherish," "Express Yourself" and the title track. It launched a wedding dress-wearing boy toy into a full-blown pop icon who had more to say about love and life than her bows and lace of earlier albums led fans to believe. Based on the lyrics released from Gaga's title-track lead single, she too will be proving she has a lot to say.
"What's amazing about this body of work," Perez continued, "is that it really is that Born This Way is a body of work, where all of the songs make sense together. And it's as if she created this world or co-created this world with her fans, and all of these songs inhabit that world. And it's so special. The songs, the album, the videos are gonna change culture. It's gonna save lives, and it's gonna get people dancing."
Perez has heard the album in its entirety, and he notes that fans will be blown away: "And it's not gonna be what everybody expects, and it's gonna be more than everybody expects," he said. "And it's gonna be so amazing. I can't wait for everybody to hear the music, and it's such a long time away. May is not around the corner."

Katherine Jackson and family are pursuing a claim against concert promoter.
By Gil Kaufman
When he was alive, Michael Jackson was forever embroiled in a series of complex and expensive-sounding lawsuits. But even in death, the late King of Pop is the subject of major legal action. None could potentially be bigger than the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the pop icon's mother, Katherine Jackson, against concert promotion giant AEG Live.
Reuters reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled on Wednesday that the civil lawsuit can go forward. It will proceed in parallel with the criminal case against Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death from an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol. Murray is the only person charged in Jackson's death and he is currently awaiting trial in that matter.
Katherine Jackson's lawsuit — filed in September on behalf of her and Jackson's three young children — accuses AEG of being responsible for the medical decisions made by Murray, whose salary was paid by the touring company behind Jackson's attempted "This Is It" comeback shows in London. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied a motion on Wednesday by AEG to dismiss Katherine Jackson's suit, but warned Jackson's attorneys that they would need to show evidence of "fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy" in order to win the case.
The judge has already said she doubts they can prove the latter charge, because the suit does not detail any agreement between Murray and AEG to break the law in providing medical care to Jackson.
"If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don't see that as a wrongful or illegal act," the judge said. A lawyer for AEG told the judge that the company could not have predicted beforehand that Murray's medical decisions would result in Jackson's death. Court papers also show that AEG "did not choose to hire Murray" and had only participated in negotiations to bring him on as an independent contractor. Michael, who had previously been treated by Murray in Las Vegas, was reportedly the one who suggested the cardiologist serve as his personal, on-call physician during the "This Is It" rehearsals and shows.
Katherine Jackson's attorney recently dropped choreographer Kenny Ortega from the lawsuit based on new information they received about his actions. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22, just six days before Murray is due back in court for his trial. Jackson's father, Joseph, has twice attempted to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, though his is focused on Murray and the Las Vegas pharmacy that supplied the propofol, not AEG Live.

Outkast MC freshens up the pop star's Cannibal cut with rare feature.

It seems the only way to find spankin'-new Andre 3000 lyrics these days is on the odd remix, and the ATLien definitely picked a left-of-center choice for his latest feature.
On Friday (January 14), a remix of Ke$ha's Cannibal track "Sleazy" hit the Web, outfitted with some brand-new bars from the elusive Outkast MC. The southern spitter uses the revamp to muse about a young kid dealing with a deadbeat dad over the song's bouncy thump.
"We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him," he spits.
After sounding off about daddy issues, Stacks then rhymes about his playful relationship with the glitter-friendly poptress.
"I call her Keisha, she like it because it's hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her," he says.
The remix follows a slew of random guest appearances on records by everyone from DJ Unk to Rich Boy as fans await another full-length release from 'Dre. Back in 2008, the Love Below lyricist broke down his affinity for jumping on the occasional remix to MTV News, explaining that cooking up another quality solo record is no easy task.
"I've been doing remixes here and there, and let me tell you, thank God for remixes. I wanna tell everybody who's been checking out the remixes and things like the John Legend song ['Green Light']: In this day and age, those are the things that have kind of been keeping me alive. Because it takes me awhile to record albums," he said. "I have to kind of build up something to say."

Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray will be heading to trial next month, and it looks like the speculation was correct: Murray's lawyers will argue that Jackson killed himself, according to People. Although Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide, Murray's defense team claims that Jackson may have "self-ingested" the drug that killed him while the doctor was out of the room.
Dr. Murray, who is being charged with involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death, was by Jackson's side when he died in 2009. He is accused of administering the pop star a fatal dose of propofol, a sedative normally used only in hospitals. (According to Murray, Jackson referred to the deadly drug as his "milk" and was using it to treat insomnia.)
It's unlikely that Jackson injected himself with the drug, but Murray's lawyers have found another possibility: He may have swallowed the entire bottle behind his doctor's back. Apparently there are traces of the drug in Jackson's digestive system, and the toxicology report doesn't rule out the possibility that Jackson drank the medicine.
However, even if Jackson did take the lethal dose himself, Dr. Murray could still be at fault. The prosecution will argue that it's a doctor's responsibility to create a "safe environment" for the patient, which means carefully monitoring his condition when he's on a lot of medications -- or, say, under a lot of stress from preparing for his comeback tour. The defense, in turn, will argue that Dr. Murray can't be held responsible for what Jackson did when he was allegedly out of the room.
The theory that Jackson swallowed an entire bottle of medicine spontaneously behind his doctor's back sounds a little suspicious to us -- and to Jackson's family.
"It's not possible that Michael would do that," said his father Joe Jackson. "The whole family knows -- and Michael's fans all over the world know -- that this is not true. It's a lie. We're outraged about it."
In our entirely biased opinion, Dr. Murray should be locked up for a long time or, at the very least, have his doctor's license permanently revoked. But we'll see what the jury has to say. The trial begins on March 24.

Cost: $30.

Colin Firth, James Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, Jeff Bridges, and Jesse Eisenberg were among the best actor nominees who dressed up for today's Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills. The men joined the female contenders for a celebratory afternoon, but before sitting down for the meal, they stopped by the interview room to chat with the press. James Franco talked about what he and Anne Hathaway will bring to the table as cohosts at this year's ceremony, while Jesse Eisenberg sang the praises of Mark Zuckerberg, whom he met for the first time earlier this month. Javier, who was spotted admiring Natalie Portman's engagement ring and congratulating her inside the luncheon, said he felt "protected" by his circle of famous friends and fans. While this year's competition in both the leading and supporting categories is stiff, Jeff said he thinks Colin will take home the award for best actor in a leading role for his work in The King's Speech.

The second day of testimony in the preliminary hearing of Michael Jackson's doctor, Conrad Murray, featured damning testimony from one of the late King of Pop's bodyguards about Murray's actions in the critical minutes after the singer was found unresponsive.
After a former Jackson staffer testified Tuesday that Murray appeared to not know how to perform CPR properly, security guard Alberto Alvarez said on Wednesday (January 5) that the cardiologist frantically grabbed medical evidence from the star's bedroom before instructing Alvarez to call 911.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Alvarez said he was the first person to walk into Jackson's bedroom after Murray realized his patient was not breathing, where he found the cardiologist administering chest compressions with one hand while Jackson lay on his bed, which goes against the recommended procedure for the life-saving method.
"I said, 'Dr. Murray, what happened?' " Alvarez told the court. " 'He had a bad reaction, he had a bad reaction,' that's all he said." Alvarez choked up as he described how Jackson's daughter, Paris, followed him into the room and screamed when she saw her father sprawled out and unresponsive on the bed.
He said Murray then instructed him to get the children out of the room, noticing as he left that Jackson's penis was out of his underwear and that medical tubing was attached to it. When Deputy District Attorney David Walgren asked Alvarez if he knew what a condom catheter was, the security guard said he did not.
Alvarez said he then witnessed Murray grabbing a handful of bottles, which he instructed the security guard to put in a bag. He told the court that he held open the bag as the doctor dropped the bottles of medicine inside and then put it in a brown canvas bag on the floor, per Murray's instructions. Murray also allegedly told Alvarez to grab one of the two bags hanging on an IV stand next to Jackson's bed and put it in another bag. Alvarez said he noticed a "milk-like substance" in the bottom of the IV bag.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's office determined that Jackson died of an acute intoxication of propofol, a powerful surgical anesthetic sometimes referred to as "milk of amnesia" thanks to its milky white appearance. Only after the medical materials had been put away did Murray tell Alvarez to call 911.
"After you had collected the bottles per Dr. Murray's instructions, and after you had collected the bags per Dr. Murray's instructions, did Dr. Murray instruct you to call 911?" Walgren asked. "Yes, sir," Alvarez responded.
TMZ reported that during cross-examination, defense attorney Ed Chernoff got Alvarez to admit that he never told police about Murray ordering him to remove the bottles and Alvarez later admitted that he may try to sell his story.
Later in the day, EMT Richard Senniff testified that he arrived at the Jackson home, just four minutes after the 911 call was placed. According to TMZ, Senniff said that, based on the condition of Jackson's body, it appeared that Murray waited at least 20 minutes to call 911. Senniff also stated that when he asked Murray what meds Jackson had been administered, he only listed lorazepam (Ativan).
Jackson cook Kai Chase also testified, revealing the food she prepared for Jackson prior to his death (seared ahi tuna and salad, white bean Tuscan soup) and that she knew something was wrong when Murray came downstairs in a panic and summoned Jackson's son, Prince.
The preliminary hearing is aimed at determining whether there is enough evidence to try Murray on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the King of Pop. It is expected to last two to three weeks.

It should come as no surprise that "Avatar" director James Cameron is the king of the world when it comes to Vanity Fair magazine's "Hollywood Top 40" ranking. After all, he's overseen the biggest movie of all time.
Ranked #4 last year, Cameron bumped up to the top of the list this year thanks to estimated earnings of a staggering $257 million in 2010. The total includes his lucrative pay deal for writing, producing and directing "Avatar," which had a worldwide box-office gross just shy of $2 billion, as well as his pay for the DVD and pay-television rights to the film. He raked in $5 million just in toy licensing and other revenue associated with the movie and $4 million for royalties and other payments from his older films.
Vanity Fair's list was put together based on estimates of the stars' up-front advance fees, shares of movie profits and worldwide box-office figures.
Not surprisingly, the #2 slot on the tally was held down by actor Johnny Depp, whose mainstream career has exploded over the past few years thanks to a number of lucrative franchises. Depp pulled down estimated earnings of $100 million, with $40 million alone for his fees to star in "Alice in Wonderland." The upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" netted him another $35 million, and he got a whopping $20 million paycheck for the poorly received Angelina Jolie co-starring flick "The Tourist."
The list was also crashed by the headline trio of the "Twilight Saga" series, with Taylor Lautner making the biggest splash at #9 on estimated earnings of $33.5 million. His cash mostly came from his $12.5 million paydays for the two-part "Breaking Dawn" films, as well as another $7.5 million for his role in the upcoming thriller "Abduction."
Co-stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were not far behind at, respectively, #13 and #15, with Stewart banking an estimated $28.5 million, with identical fees for her "Twilight" work, as well as $2.5 million for the adaptation of the Jack Kerouac classic "On the Road." Pattinson took home an estimated $27.5 million, again mostly for "Breaking Dawn," but also thanks a $1.5 million fee for starring with Reese Witherspoon in "Water for Elephants" and another $1 million for the costume drama "Bel Ami."
Other big movers in the top 15 are: director Steven Spielberg (#3, $80 million), "Inception" director Christopher Nolan (#4, $71.5 million) and star Leonardo DiCaprio (#5, $62 million), director Tim Burton (#6, $53 million), funnyman Adam Sandler (#7, $50 million), and "Hangover" director Todd Phillips (#8, $34 million).
Also making the list are "Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman (#37, $14 million), Tom Cruise (#35, $14.5 million), "Transformers" actor Shia LeBeouf (#34, $16 million), America's sweetheart Sandra Bullock (#22, $22 million), Angelina Jolie (#21, $23.5 million), Jennifer Aniston (#18, $24.5 million) and "Iron Man" himself, Robert Downey Jr. (#10, $31.5 million).
